Sport for Development

Sports based initiatives are useful in addressing specific Development objectives

Sports based initiatives are becoming widely recognized as useful program strategies to address specific development objectives. We recognize the efforts made by the United Nations and international aid agencies in using sport to help address the 'Millennium Development Goals' (MDGs).  These promote the use of sport to address issues such as:

  • Promoting gender equity and empowering women

  • Achieving universal primary education

  • Reducing child mortality and improving maternal health

  • Combatting HIV/AIDs, Malaria and other diseases

  • Ensuring environmental sustainability

  • Developing global partnerships for development

More broadly, sport can be a useful tool in addressing other social issues in your community. Issues including; equity and social integration, community development and cooperation, economic empowerment, capacity building, health, education and more
